How it works

Commission = item price (after your coupon) x the rate for your tier and the category. Shipping and the buyer's sales tax are not in the commission. Payment processing = 2.9% of everything the buyer pays (item, shipping, tax) + $0.30 in the US; 2.42% + £0.25 plus VAT in the UK. Payout = price - commission - processing - tax on fees - shipping you pay yourself; profit = payout - what the item cost you.

Tax on fees: in the US the platform adds sales tax on its commission or processing fee only in a few states (see the sources); UK sellers who are not VAT registered pay VAT on both at the standard rate. The Premier Shop discount (10% off the rate) runs through 2026-10-31. In eligible categories the part of one order above $1,500.00 pays 0% commission while that promotion runs; processing still applies to the full amount.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Whatnot fee still 8% + 2.9% + $0.30?
Only at the Standard tier ($0.00 to $14,999.00 of sales in four weeks) and for most categories. Since 21 September 2026 higher tiers lower the commission, down to 3.5% for coins and 4.5% for fashion at Tier 6; processing stays 2.9% + $0.30.
Does Whatnot charge commission on shipping?
No. The commission is on the item price only; shipping and the buyer's tax are excluded. They are included in the payment processing fee, which is charged on the buyer's whole total.
Why was my order charged a different rate?
The rate follows the category of the show for live sales and the category of the product for marketplace sales, and your tier is locked for the whole four-week period. Promotions (new-seller, category promos, high-value orders) override it. Each order's receipt in Seller Hub shows the rate charged.
What does Whatnot charge UK sellers?
6.67% commission at the Standard tier (£0 to £9,999 in four weeks) plus 2.42% + £0.25 processing, all subject to VAT for sellers who are not VAT registered. Pick United Kingdom in the calculator.
Where does my money go on a giveaway?
A $0 giveaway has no commission; the shipping you pay for it comes out of your balance. Type 0 as the price and the label cost as shipping you pay.
